Propagation of tropical squall line-induced storm coastal inundation episodes in Java-Bali, Indonesia

چکیده

The short-lived tropical squall lines could trigger weather-related hazards to the northern part of Indonesia Maritime Continent (IMC), such as Sumatra and Kalimantan. Herein, we investigated rare propagation event long-lived line associated with a severe storm surge that induced coastal inundation in Java-Bali devastating impacts from 22 May–2 June 2020. With comprehensive approach combining observational, numerical, analytical studies, for first time, proposed possible mechanism related over IMC, which represents most equatorial region complicated air-sea interaction area world. Our findings suggest supercell-like thunderstorm initiated multicell central on May 20, 2020 continuously propagated southeastward until several days later reached Bali. near-quasi steady convective has 6 h time travel west Java. rapidly develops deep updraft under strong fast cold pool (∼13.8 m s−1). further broken type seems reinforced by low-level moist transport Java Sea. This study also suggested this unusual might occur more frequently warming upper ocean IMC.

Prevalence of antibodies to Japanese encephalitis virus among pigs in Bali and East Java, Indonesia, 2008.

Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is a fatal disease in Asia. Pigs are considered to be the effective amplifying host for JEV in the peridomestic environment. Bali Island and Java Island in Indonesia provide a model to assess the effect of pigs on JEV transmission, since the pig density is nearly 100-fold higher in Bali than Java, while the geographic and climatologic environments are equivalen...

Tropical Cyclone Flooding: Not Just a Coastal Storm-Surge Phenomenon

Inland riverine flooding from tropical cyclones (TCs) is responsible for significant economic losses in the United States. Yet, most hurricane loss assessment efforts are focused on coastal areas. Hurricane Irene, which struck the U.S. east coast in 2011, provides a recent and poignant example: while intense media coverage and preparation and evacuation activities focused on the projected coast...

Large-Scale Trade in Legally Protected Marine Mollusc Shells from Java and Bali, Indonesia.

BACKGROUND Tropical marine molluscs are traded globally. Larger species with slow life histories are under threat from over-exploitation. We report on the trade in protected marine mollusc shells in and from Java and Bali, Indonesia. Since 1987 twelve species of marine molluscs are protected under Indonesian law to shield them from overexploitation. Despite this protection they are traded openl...

Tropical climate influences on drought variability over Java, Indonesia

[1] We investigate relationships between Indonesian drought, the state of the equatorial Indian Ocean, and ENSO using three instrumental indices spanning 1884– 1997 A.D.: 1. EQWIN, a zonal wind index for the equatorial Indian Ocean; 2. the Dipole Mode Index (DMI), an indicator of the Indian Ocean SST gradient; and 3. tropical Pacific Niño-3.4 SSTs. A regression model of the Java Sep–Dec Palmer ...
